Bissessar Wins Baton Rouge ! Resets National Record 5.78 @ 242 !

IHRA racers and fans extended the Mardi Gras celebration this past weekend at the Baton Rouge, Louisiana national event, which was packed with fans from surrounding states.  The beads were flying, the gumbo was brewing,

and the racers were greeted with pure southern hospitality while the fans witnessed another great Nitro Jam show that included appearances from Spencer Massey and the brother of NHRA's Ron Capps; Bruce Litton's return to the top with the only 300mph race of the weekend, an astonishing Top Dragster wreck, and a repeat win from sportsman bad boy, Sheldon Bissessar.

Bissessar dominated yet again with back to back wins in the Harland Sharp Elite 8, and resetting the National Record once more with an amazing 5.78 pass at 242mph during second round of qualifying.  Even with a new converter and transmission, Aaron Sipple of ASE & IRONMAN Chassis had Bissessar's hot rod wowing the packed stands Saturday night, with faster ET's than even the Top Fuel and Prostalgia Funny Car fields.  "We were working with extreme track conditions in Louisiana," said Aaron.  "This is only the second year IHRA has had this event at this track, and even though we had some beautiful weather, we are still looking at very cool track temps this time of year.  We were working with corrected density altitudes of -400ft. at one point, with a definitive shake zone at only 1.2 seconds into the track, when the rear tires were only hitting the 60 ft. beams.  You could leave the starting line as hard as you wanted, but then you had to really pull back on her at .80 tenth into the run before you could pour on the fun again.  It was definitely a little bit of a tuner's nightmare this weekend.  Plus it takes an extremely skilled driver like Sheldon to handle those conditions in the car.  Even on our 5.78 pass I was still a little too greedy in that shake zone, but Sheldon peddled and caught it so quick you would of thought the throttle pedal was computer controlled.  In better conditions the car would have been on a 5.75 pass for sure."

IHRA will be on a couple month break until the next event, but with spring looming and temperatures on the rise, the Sipple and Bissessar team have their sights set on Rockingham.
